Ed Tomasek

Director of New Business Development

Ed Tomasek has a BS in Biology and an MBA, both from the University of California Irvine. He started at Elcon Precision in 2016 as Director of Sales and Business Development and is responsible for bringing in new business to Elcon for both the etching and assembly sides of the company. Before coming to Elcon, Ed spent a combined 20 years in the ceramics industry at Kyocera, Carpenter Advanced Ceramics, and Morgan Advanced Materials, primarily in sales, business development, and product manager roles. He began his career as a researcher in the medical device industry, working on the development of a hollow fiber artificial kidney and anticalcification treatments for implantable heart valves. His undergraduate studies focused on marine biology, and early in his career he also taught island ecology and marine biology on weekends at the Catalina Island Marine Institute.

How did you get to Elcon?

I knew Tim Dyer, our current president, and his predecessor from my many years in the ceramics business. At the time, Elcon’s business was concentrated in California and the western United States and the company wanted to expand geographically to accelerate their growth. Although photochemical etching was completely new to me, I was interested in the material science and took on the challenge of expanding our business. The best part of my job is that I learn something every day and get to work on all kinds of applications, from medical devices and rocket engines to x-ray tools for cancer treatment and many others. We have a great problem-solving team at Elcon that makes my job fun and challenging.
