Elcon Precision etches many grades of stainless steel, most commonly 304, 316, 420, 719, 17-4 PH, 2205, 4130, and 5510. Stainless steel is a high strength, corrosion-resistant metal suitable for many applications from biomedical to industrial to aerospace. Ferritic stainless (17-4 and 4130) and martensitic stainless (420) steels are magnetic, whereas austenitic (304 and 316) and duplex stainless steels (2205) are weakly magnetic. Common uses include fine mesh screens, sensor elements, actuators, sharp needles, medical components, and springs. Elcon has a special etching process that can create very sharp cutting surfaces from stainless steel.
We etch up to 0.025” thick sheets that range up to 22x12 inches. Thicker sheets up to 2mm can be fabricated using a combination of high-speed CNC machining and photo etching. Tolerances of ±.0005 can be achieved in many applications.
